Iowa remains the country’s number-one ethanol producer, reports Radio Iowa.
The state’s 43 ethanol plants hit a production record in 2018, surpassing the record reached in 2017.
Cassidy Walter, spokeswoman for the Iowa Renewable Fuels Association, told Radio Iowa that while a new record was set, it’s still under the state’s overall capacity.
“Iowa’s ethanol producers produced 4.35-billion gallons in 2018 and that’s up from 4.2 in 2017,” Walter says. “We’ve got about 4.5-billion gallons of ethanol capacity in the state of Iowa and there’s room to do a lot more.”
