Bayer Asks California Court To Reverse Roundup Verdict

Bayer asked a California appeals court to overturn an $86 million verdict that found it was responsible for a couple's cancer caused by Roundup.

Bayer filed paperwork with the California Appeals court in San Francisco on Friday, Feb. 7.

Bayer said the jury's verdict could not be reconciled with “either the law or sound science.”

Bayer said US regulators, including the EPA, have consistently found glyphosate to be non-carcinogenic.

FBN’s Take On What It Means: We believe that Bayer asking a California court to overturn a decision made in 2019 could represent an interesting development for the manufacturer of Roundup.

French Soft Winter Wheat Acres Down From 2019

France's farm ministry cut its estimate for soft wheat acres this winter but raised its outlook for barley and rapeseed.

Soft wheat acres are down to 4.70 million hectares (MH) from 4.73 MH in December.

French soft wheat acres are predicted to fall by 5.6% from 2019.

France is the largest wheat exporter in the EU.

2020 winter rapeseed area is down 2.1% from 2019.

French winter barley acres are flat.

France is the largest grain producer in the EU.

FBN’s Take On What It Means: We believe that the contraction of French wheat acres can represent a positive for 2020/21 new crop US SRW export program. With French soft wheat acres, and quite possibly production, declining and new crop US SRW acres expanding, we believe that US soft wheat can be in a position to win some export business from France.
