Novus has strengthened its Innovation team by hiring Steven (Shaohua) Guan, Ph.D., as manager of microbiology, molecular biology, and fermentation. Dr. Guan will lead research efforts focused on enzymes, direct-fed microbials (DFMs), and fermentation-derived products designed to help producers improve animal performance.
Based at Novus’s global headquarters in Missouri, Guan is responsible for designing, executing, and interpreting a broad range of microbiology and biochemistry studies, working both internally and with external vendors.
“I am excited to join the Novus Innovation team,” Guan said. “I look forward to contributing to innovation projects, collaborating with co-development partners, and supporting applied research and regulatory affairs.”
Guan brings more than 20 years of experience in fermentation process development across lab, pilot, and production scales. His background spans optimizing fermentation media and processes for bacteria, yeasts, and fungi in food, feed, pharmaceutical, and agricultural industries. He has held senior roles at Dalan Animal Health, Kemin Industries, and Agricen Sciences.
Associate Director of Innovation Gaurav Shah said Guan’s expertise marks a major step in expanding Novus’s in-house research capabilities. “Steven’s extensive experience will help us deliver science-based solutions more efficiently and accelerate our innovation efforts,” Shah said. “This strengthens our leadership in intelligent nutrition.”
