Corn stocks stored across the United States have fallen to 1.53 billion bushels, 13 percent decrease from last year, according to the quarterly Grain Stocks report released Monday by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The September 1 inventory marks a significant decline from the 1.76 billion bushels reported at the same time in 2024, reflecting continued strong demand for the nation's largest crop.

On-farm corn storage showed the steepest decline, dropping 18 percent year-over-year to 643 million bushels. Off-farm storage facilities, which include elevators, warehouses and processors, reported 888 million bushels, down 10 percent from last September.

Soybean stocks followed a similar downward trend, totaling 316 million bushels, an 8 percent decrease from September 2024. On-farm soybean storage fell 18 percent to 91.5 million bushels, while off-farm stocks decreased 3 percent to 225 million bushels.

Wheat was the only major grain to show increased storage levels, with all wheat varieties totaling 2.12 billion bushels, a 6 percent increase from the previous year. This includes 692 million bushels stored on farms (up 4 percent) and 1.43 billion bushels in off-farm facilities (up 7 percent).

The USDA also revised its 2024 production estimates, increasing corn for grain by 25 million bushels and soybean production by 7.74 million bushels from previous estimates.

Other grains showed mixed inventory trends. Barley stocks fell 3 percent to 150 million bushels, while oat stocks increased 3 percent to 67.5 million bushels. Grain sorghum storage saw a substantial 22 percent increase to 40 million bushels.

The quarterly report tracks grain disappearance, with corn showing a June-August indicated disappearance of 3.11 billion bushels, slightly below last year's 3.23 billion for the same period.
