Brazil declares freedom from FMD without vaccination

This represents a first step in opening up the whole country for exports of animal products to more potentially valuable markets.

After the most recent round of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) vaccination in 12 regions of Brazil, agriculture minister Carlos Fávaro announced that Brazil has become free of the disease — without reliance on vaccination.

This represents a significant step in the national program for the eradication of FMD, according to the agriculture ministry last week.
