Mycotoxin & Crop Report: Predominating cold, dry weather

Colder-than-average temperatures lingered throughout most of the country.

This week's headlines for Neogen's Monday Mycotoxin & Crop Report for December 5, 2022:

  • Predominating cold, dry weather
  • Needed precipitation in the south and southeast
  • New mycotoxin reports

Weather and harvest updates

The USDA’s November 29 bulletin reports more dry weather across large swaths of the country.

Late in the week a wet weather system moved through the south into the southern plains, Mississippi valley and further east, benefitting the developing winter wheat crop in those regions.

Precipitation was also beneficial to soil conditions in drought-stricken regions, although a sharp front left out many affected areas.

Colder-than-average temperatures lingered throughout most of the country with the exceptions of sections of the northern plains and southern Florida.

Winter wheat development is highly variable within some fields.

91% of winter wheat has emerged, one point above the five-year average; 34% is in good to excellent condition, 10 points behind last year.
