U.S. Crop Progress Report as of November 14

  • The Crop Progress Report showed corn harvest at 91% done, a seven-point gain on the week; average is 86%.

  • Soybeans saw a five-point gain to 92% now in the bins; average is 93%.

  • Cotton harvest has picked up pace and is at 65% done, a ten-point gain on the week and one point ahead of average.

  • Sorghum harvest is at 89%, two points ahead of average.

  • Winter wheat plantings are 94% done, in line with average; 81% of the crop has emerged.

  • Wheat G/E condition ratings gained one point to 46%; the very poor rating dropped two points to 7%.

FBN’s Take On What It Means: Corn and bean harvest slowed some this week, and precipitation may hamper what remains to be done. Winter wheat plantings are almost done and most of the crop has emerged. However, those areas may still lack moisture in the week ahead. Regardless, ratings ticked up this week.

Brazil Corn and Bean Planting Pace

  • Agrural said on Monday that Brazilian soybean planting continued at a quick pace, reaching 78% done for the week ending November 11.

  • It was a gain of 11 points on the week and is eight points higher than average.

  • Work is now largely done in Mato Grosso, and Rio Grande do Sul hit 29% planted.

  • Meanwhile, first corn planting is now 85% planted, jumping ten points for the week and three points higher than at the same point last year.

FBN’s Take On What It Means: Agrural emphasized the quick planting progress for corn and beans, but it also stressed some moisture problems may lie ahead. In Rio Grande do Sul, dry weather is causing concern, while there’s been some excess moisture in more northeastern regions. Most of the concern for farmers is the effect of drought on the corn crop. However, the situation is not as alarming in Rio Grande do Sul on its later plantings.
