Pennsylvania's Moyer and Son Feed Mill to close after 155 years

Family-owned company cites financial challenges, shifts focus to growing home services divisions.

The Reporter's John Worthington reported that Moyer and Son Inc. has announced the closure of its 155-year-old feed mill and attached feed store in Souderton, Pennsylvania. Owner David Moyer cited "insurmountable" financial challenges as the reason for the closure.

Founded in 1869, the company has evolved from a feed grain business to include various home services. Despite the mill's closure, Moyer continues to expand its home services divisions, including heating fuels, HVAC, plumbing, lawn care, pest control, and pool services.

The feed mill, which produced animal and bird feed sold throughout the East Coast, has been a significant part of the Indian Valley community. Dan Yocum, Moyer's marketing manager and Souderton's mayor, emphasized the company's unique position as a family-owned business operating in its founding town for over 150 years.
