A silo fire at Poulin Grain in Swanton, VT, may have been burning through the night, according to officials, and may have been caused by the welding work being done the day before.

The Saint Albans Messenger reports that early on Friday morning, workers sounded the alarm that there was smoke inside the silo, which contained powdered grain.

The fire was not fully involved and did not have any flames visible from the outside. Fire crews discovered that the flames caught in an annular space in between the silo wall and the grain canister inside.

Approximately 10 workers had to be evacuated. The extent of the property damage was unknown, and there were no injuries.

Poulin Grain has four mill manufacturing locations in Newport, Swanton and Bennington, VT and Canton, NY.
