Industry, education converge at ISU complex

Feed and grain industry partners fund $30-million-complex to educate next generation of commercial agro-industrial talent.

Most feed mills measure productivity by tons of feed output, but Anthony Ewing, associate director and operations manager of the Iowa State University Kent Feed Mill and Grain Science Complex, said people are his main product.

“This facility wasn’t funded because we need to feed animals here or even primarily to do animal nutrition research,” Ewing said. “Our purpose is to deliver students to the industry who have had exposure to grain and feed operations before seeing it as an employee for the first time.”
