Bentonite and competing clays in animal feeds

They should not be treated as interchangeable clays with slightly different origin stories, but minerals that get lumped together far too easily.

Bentonite still tends to dominate the clay discussion in feed. This is because it has a long track record, it is widely available and, above all, it is familiar. But the idea that it sits in a category of one does not hold up anymore.

There are plenty of other mineral products chasing the same inclusion space: sepiolites, zeolites, kaolin and various aluminosilicates. They are all on the market, all in the conversation, and all sold with some mix of promises around pellet quality, moisture control, handling and toxin binding.
