Poultry feed producers are always looking for new feed ingredient alternatives that aid poultry health without compromising performance, and researchers are adding a new ingredient to the roster: cranberries.

“The primary cranberry product to use in the poultry feed is pomace,” said Aline Pereira, University of Guelph, Animal Biosciences. “Pomace is basically the seeds and skin of the fruit, and it is considered as a waste product by the cranberry processing industry, but for animal feed, it is a valuable byproduct because it’s rich in bioactive components and metabolites.”
