Grain Bin Fire in Illinois

Fire department responds to call at Petry Farms in Creston, IL

Rochelle Fire Department and emergency crews from the Ogle-Lee Fire Protection District returned to the scene of an earlier grain bin fire at Petry Farms in rural Creston, IL, reports the Rochelle News-Leader.

Crews initially responded shortly after 5:30 a.m. Monday and were on scene for approximately three hours.

At around 10 a.m., the fire department had been called back to the scene and crews discovered the entire floor of the grain bin was smoldering, with about an inch of corn burnt and crusted.

“The fire started underneath the floor of the grain bin due to some type of mechanical failure,” Fire Chief Dave Sawlsville told the Rochelle News-Leader.

About 2,000 bushels of corn were in the grain bin at the time.

There were no injuries reported.
