The South Dakota Public Utilities Commission (PUC), on Oct. 16, fined the McIntosh Grain Elevator $2,000 for not turning in its quarterly financials, reports the Capital Journal.

Because the McIntosh-Watauga grain elevator did not re-apply for its grain buying license in a timely manner, it did not have a valid license to do business when it purchased grain. Quarterly financial reports had not been given to the PUC. The PUC investigative staff said the elevator had received 60 loads of grain while it technically did not hold a license.

Owner Deann Holzwarth, attending the meeting over the phone, said she was understaffed and she had not realized the paperwork was required, due and had not been turned in.
