Dust Explosion May Have Caused Elevator Fire

Three sent to hospital after incident at MCF Feedyards in Alberta last week

A grain dust explosion was the possible cause of a fire last week at the MCF Feedyards in Brooks, AB, reports The Brooks Bulletin.

Deputy Fire Chief Barry Yokoyama said when he arrived on scene there was a lot of smoke, and he was told there had been an explosion but as of Friday the cause of the fire had not been determined.

Yokoyama said the department has been called back a number of times to extinguish “hot spots” so there is a lot of smoke damage inside the building.

He said grain continued to burn on Friday which was hard to reach unless they started dismantling the building.
