The Gazette and Reuters reported on a settlement between Archer Danials Midland Co. and Syngenta over grain shipments rejected by China, for an undisclosed amount. The shipments contained Viptera corn, which at the time was not approved by the Chinese government. Growers and companies have claimed that Syngenta was negligent in selling the strain of corn before it was approved in China, even though it was approved in the United States. The company settled the lawsuits from farmers last year for close to $1.5 billion.
