ABB, a global technology company, has announced the completion of its acquisition of Aurora Motors, a U.S.-based vertical pump motors provider. This strategic move, part of ABB's Motion Business Area's growth strategy, aims to bolster its NEMA Motors Division by expanding product offerings and improving global customer support.
The acquisition, originally announced on November 4, 2024, brings Aurora Motors' $4 million operation under ABB's umbrella. Aurora Motors, with engineering and operations in Shanghai, China, and a corporate office and distribution center in Hayward, California, specializes in vertical pump motors for various industries.
This acquisition is expected to strengthen ABB's position in the global NEMA motor industry, valued at approximately $3.4 billion. NEMA motors are crucial components in various sectors, including food and beverage, oil and gas, mining and aggregate, and water and wastewater treatment, playing a vital role in applications that move air, liquids, and other materials.
While financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, the integration of Aurora Motors is anticipated to enhance ABB's supply chain capabilities and expand its product portfolio in the industrial electric motor market, primarily serving North America.
This strategic move underscores ABB's commitment to growth and innovation in the industrial motor sector, positioning the company to better serve its global customer base with an expanded range of solutions for critical industrial applications.
