The Illinois Wheat Association (IWA) will hold its annual Wheat Plot Tour on May 20, offering farmers and researchers an opportunity to assess the winter wheat crop and estimate yields across southern Illinois.

Starting at 9 a.m., four tour groups will visit wheat fields in various counties, taking yield estimates at two stops per county. The event culminates at 4 p.m. at the Southern Illinois University Belleville Research Center, where participants will view wheat variety and seed treatment trials.

Tour leaders from Siemer Milling Company, Mennel Milling Company of Illinois, AgriMAXX Wheat Seed Company, and Wabash Valley FS Services Co. will guide groups through different regions. Interested participants should contact the respective tour leaders to register and confirm meeting locations.

The afternoon session will feature presentations on scouting results and yield estimates, along with a tour of SIU research plots led by Dr. Jessica Rutkoski from the University of Illinois. Dr. Boris Camiletti will discuss scab control application methods.

Participants must RSVP for the tour and group dinner by May 2.
