USDA: Spread of H5N1 likely due to animal movement

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) said the spread of H5N1 in dairy herds is likely the result of cattle movements, not from introduction by wild birds.

In an epidemiological brief released June 8, APHIS said while all affected farms observe some kind of wild birds near cattle, there is no genomic or epidemiological evidence that wild birds are spreading H5N1 to cattle, but cannot be ruled out.
