Part of my work with the United Sorghum Checkoff Program has been the direction of demonstration trials. Such a trial was conducted last year in Norway, and it was repeated three times. I have posted repeatedly about this on LinkedIn, but the tremendous number of views and responses compel me to report it here too.

Here is what happened: As part of the trials, we incorporated tannin-free U.S. sorghum (about 50% of the cereal portion) in pellets (2.5-3.5 mm) for broilers. The animals performed as always and, to our surprise, pellet quality was deemed satisfactory. However, the twist in the story is that we did not grind the sorghum, but included it as whole grain and pelleted the mix. Yes, there was some breakage, but feeding crumbles to broilers is a common practice. So, we were happily surprised by all this and we want to explore it further.
