The International Association of Operative Millers (IAOM) will hold its annual conference and expo in Las Vegas for the first time in the organization’s history. The association’s 114th annual conference and expo will take place April 19-23 at the Las Vegas Hilton Hotel and Las Vegas Convention Center.

“We expect around 900 grain milling professionals and allied trade representatives from across North America and around the world,” stated Melinda Farris, IAOM executive vice president. “Las Vegas is an exciting city. I anticipate the conference attendance to be higher than it has been in the past several years because of the added attraction of the city and venue itself.”

The expo and educational sessions are scheduled for April 21-22. The association’s board and committee meetings will be held during the days preceding the conference. A golf tournament is scheduled for April 23, as a close to the meeting.

“In addition to a great lineup of educational sessions on Wednesday and Thursday, we have two excellent keynote addresses scheduled,” Farris said.

The first will be Steve Ellis, Cargill, who will deliver the keynote address at the International Milling Education Foundation (IMEF) Breakfast on the morning of April 21. His presentation will be on “Challenges in the Industry: Safety, Flour Fortification, Third-party Audits, and Consumer Trends.” On Thursday, Ricardo Carvajal, J.D., M.S., Hyman, Phelps & McNamara, P.C., will present on the “FDA’s Direction and Management’s Responsibility in Food Safety.”

“This is a session that our Employee Relations Committee developed,” Farris explained. “The Committee felt the content was so important to the entire industry that we decided to feature it during our Speaker’s Corner hour on Thursday.”

The highlight of the week will be the annual banquet and awards ceremony on Thursday night. Three IAOM members have been identified by the nominating committee to receive awards this year in recognition of their dedication and commitment to the Association. The recipient of the Milling Operative of the Year Award, presented by Milling & Baking News, will also be honored at the IAOM banquet.

IAOM has been the leading provider of educational resources and training for the grain milling industry since its foundation in 1896. Through conferences, workshops, correspondence courses, short courses and publications, IAOM has played an integral role in the continued education and training of the professionals in this industry. IAOM is an individual-based member organization with a 1,500-strong membership representing over 90 countries worldwide.
