ADM has launched a pioneering trial program in collaboration with Voltloader, a logistics and transportation company focused on electric heavy goods vehicles (HGVs). The initiative involves using Voltloader's electric bulk fleet vehicles to transport wheat from farms to ADM processing facilities, starting with their location in Corby, Northamptonshire.
The program supports ADM's commitment to reducing its Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions by 25% by 2035. Each week, ten loads of wheat are transported using Volvo FM Electric tractors and specially designed Weightlifter tipping trailers, optimized for maximum payload and range.
Ashley Fuller, Commercial Director of ADM Milling UK, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership: "We are delighted to be working with Voltloader on this initiative to help answer our customers' call for more sustainably sourced field-to-flour solutions."
If the trial proves successful, ADM plans to expand the use of electric vehicles to other milling locations across the UK, further reducing the carbon footprint of their operations.
Dave Rose, Founder and CEO of Voltloader, highlighted the environmental benefits: "Replacing a diesel truck with a truck running on renewable electricity can directly prevent up to 100 tonnes of CO2 per year from entering the atmosphere. This collaboration is about leading the industry towards a more sustainable future."
This strategic move not only aligns with global sustainability goals but also positions ADM at the forefront of innovative logistics solutions within the agricultural sector.
