US sorghum a strategic choice for European poultry feed

US sorghum is a viable option for EU cereal imports, as sorghum and poultry go well together.

In my work for the United Sorghum Checkoff Program as an international nutritionist, I have often been asked why Europeans should consider importing sorghum from the United States (U.S.) My immediate response is that we already import cereals, as the EU is not cereal sufficient, and U.S. sorghum is another viable option. I want to expand further on the subject, especially for poultry, as sorghum and poultry go very well together.

It merits repeating that all feed-grade grain sorghum from the U.S. is non-GMO and tannin-free. The former removes a barrier that limited or prevented grain sorghum to be the sole cereal option, whereas the second offers an alternative to the ban of importing GMO grains. But here are some more thoughts about this topic based on my personal experiences.
