“As feed is the largest cost in livestock production, protecting nutrients is not only essential for animal performance but also influences the economics and efficiency of production,” says Pieter Steyn, global program manager feed safety at Selko, Trouw Nutrition’s feed additive brand.
He adds that while global sourcing and supply models pose greater challenges in some regions, research shows it is possible to preserve nutritional value even when cargo quality is poor or the choice of suppliers is limited.
“Proactive approaches have been shown to help both feed mill managers and home mixers preserve the quality and nutritional value of their grains,” Steyn says.
