Matthews Feed & Grain Celebrates 100 Years

Indiana business focuses on toll mill, grain and show feed, and bulk feed

The new year marks the start of a special anniversary for Matthews Feed & Grain, Matthews, IN, celebrates its 100th year in 2020, reports the Chronicle-Tribune.

The company’s three sectors of business are the toll mill, the grain and the show feed, and with their bulk feed business, they have two or three clients.

The bulk feed, or toll mill, has always been the driver of the business for the last 10 years, but they are gradually entering into retail, officials said.

According to Office Manager Amanda May, the show feed sector focuses mainly on swine, cranking out 4,000 tons of swine show feed in 2019.

According to the Matthews Feed & Grain website, a $2 million expansion took place in 2007 with a new toll mill and an additional dump established to supply the mill with incoming corn and grain byproducts.

Since then, a new truck scale, semi staging area, warehouse and 250,000-bushel grain bin have been installed.

Up to 146,000 tons of toll mill feed and 2,200 tons of swine show feed were produced in 2018. In January 2019, the completion of the new bagging mill and robot occurred, helping the business to grow.
