The International Grain Trade Coalition Association (IGTC) has awarded two grain trade representatives with a Prix d’Honneur pour Service volontaire to recognize their exceptional contributions to the progress of the sector and the aims of the coalition.
IGTC is a federation of non-profit organizations formed to promote and facilitate the performance of the supply chain for grains, oilseeds, pulses and derived products. Established in Switzerland, the association brings together more than 8,000 businesses worldwide
At an official ceremony during London Grains Week on June 10, the Prix d’Honneur was presented to two volunteers: Krista Thomas, vice president, Canada Grains Council (CGC), and Ing. Ricardo Calderón López, executive director, Agricultural Product Providers Association of Mexico (APPAMEX).
The assessment criteria used to decide the winners of the Prix d’Honneur were set against the aims of IGTC which are officially registered in the coalition’s statutes as follows:
- Serve the greater good by promoting and facilitating the performance of the supply chain for grains, oilseeds, pulses and derived products.
- Support accomplishments toward world food security and economic well-being goals as defined by the United Nations. Inform and promote the common/shared interests of international actors that include farmers, producers, exporters, importers, governments and consumers.
- Foster a safe, predictable, sustainable, affordable, nutritious and secure food supply across the world.
- Share critical research and expertise on the global supply chain.
- Serve the diverse needs arising from international provision of food, feed, transport and processing for grains, oilseeds, pulses and derived products.
During the ceremony, it was recognized that volunteers in the IGTC’s network play a crucial role in helping to communicate the complexity of agricultural product supply systems, as well as establishing common positions on key issues impacting the global grain trade and providing education, capacity building and guidance to both public and private entities.
IGTC is now seeking further cooperation with partners in its efforts to facilitate trade and support the large network of global actors and international logistics that moves more than 800 million metric tons of products for food, feed, and processing.
