Greenfield Grain LLC, a subsidiary of Denver-based Greenfield Holdings LLC, is seeking permits for a grain elevator and loading dock on the Ohio River on a 25-acre site in Henderson, KY, reports the Courier & Press.

Kyle Egbert, the company's interim CEO, said it's a "significant" $20 million-plus investment.

Speed of facility would be highlight

Plans for the facility, which would handle corn, soybeans and winter wheat, would include four concrete grain storage silos measuring 140 feet tall with a diameter of 50 feet and storage capacity of 185,000 bushels, said Chris Case, director of operations with Greenfield.

The barge loading system would be capable of taking grain from the silos or pits.

Case said the speed of operation would be of particular interest to local producers. Plans include three truck pits with a capacity of 30,000 bushels/hour. The facility would be designed to handle 500 trucks/day.

"The idea is for the facility to be extremely fast," Egbert said. "Load barges fast and be fast for the producer on a smaller footprint."

Greenfield plans plans 'to build the country’s foremost integrated grain platform'

In December, Greenfield Holdings completed the acquisition of four key assets -- Lake Providence, Parkdale, Crowville and Dunn -- located in Louisiana and Arkansas from subsidiaries of Agspring, LLC. This was part of its plant to build the country’s foremost integrated grain platform.

On its website, the company states its mission is "to create the world’s most efficient and sustainable grain handling and logistics network for the future of agriculture."

The company is also planning a $400 million export terminal in Louisiana, the first export grain elevator built in the U.S. Gulf in over 40 years, it said.

Located in St. John the Baptist Parish, LA, on the Lower Mississippi River (LMR), Greenfield has secured a 1,300-plus acre parcel of land with 3,400 feet of river front and deep-water access. The new grain export elevator will operate in concert with the inland assets.

The export grain elevator has an annual capacity of 11 million tons with an upside of 22 million tons. This equates to 400 million bushels annually.
