A thick haze filled the air on the highway along the Illinois-Indiana state border as I drove to visit Commodity Blenders in Warren, Indiana. Poor air quality alerts had been issued across the Midwest and along the East Coast due to smoke drifting into U.S. airspace from Canadian wildfires.
