The USDA’s September 13 bulletin reports heavy rains in the Northeast region of the U.S., providing some relief to near drought conditions.
In the Southeast and Mississippi delta, fieldwork has resumed after extensive rainfall in those regions brought delays.
Topsoil conditions are improving in 11 states, providing good planting conditions for fall crops.
The late season precipitation will not benefit the nation’s corn crop, with conditions falling 1% this week.

- Winter Wheat is 10% planted. 3 points above the five-year average
- 85% of spring wheat acres are harvested — 4 points behind the five-year average
- Barley acres are 91% harvested — 1 point behind five-year average
- Oat acres are 95% harvested — On par with the five-year average
- Corn maturity advances in many parts of the country
- 95% of corn acres are in the dough stage — 1 point behind the five-year average. 53% are in good to excellent condition, 5 points behind last year
