This week's headlines for Neogen's Monday Mycotoxin & Crop Report for July 11: showers fall in the Southeast; Midwest temperatures cool; spring wheat conditions well above last year.
The USDA's July 6 bulletin reports that the West and Midwest had dry weather.
However, Midwest temperatures did not reach a level that would be stressful to crops.
The southern Rockies to the Central Plains also experienced a cooler-than-normal temperatures while the western side of the country experienced hotter than normal temperatures.
Showers fell in the southeast, Plains, Southwest and Northeast.
Crop conditions
The wheat harvest continues as crop maturity advances.
Winter wheat:
- Winter wheat is 54% harvested; six points ahead of the five year average
- 31% of acres are in good-to-excellent condition; 16 points below last year
Spring wheat
- 20% of spring wheat acres are headed; 37 points behind the five-year average
- 66% are in good-to-excellent condition; 50 points above last year
Barley acres
- Barley acres or 43% headed; 10 points behind the five-year average
- 59% are in good-to-excellent condition; 37 points above last year
Oat acres
- Both acres are 67% headed; 14 points below the five-year average
- 61% are in good to excellent condition; 27 points above last year
Corn
- Corn development is highly variable within some fields
- 7% of corn acres are silking; four points behind the five-year average
- 64% are in good-to-excellent condition, the same as last year
