High oleic soybeans produce a heart-healthy oil for food customers and a highly functional oil for industrial manufacturers.

A high oleic soybean has oil that contains at least 70% oleic acid. Typically, soybean oil has 22% to 28% oleic acid.

At high temperatures, the increased level of oleic acid makes the oil more stable, and better for food uses like baking and frying.

Growing opportunities

Grown similarly to commodity soybeans, these beans currently have select availability across the Midwest and Delmarva Peninsula.

The availability of high oleic soybean contract opportunities is widening, with a multitude of delivery locations available and an average premium of more than 50 cents/bushel.

High oleic soybeans have already revolutionized the soy industry, from increased food functionality to industrial uses, with new innovations such as motor oil, tires, shoes and asphalt.

By providing a product that meets the demand of biobased alternatives, high oleic soybeans are adding long-term value. The 9 billion pounds of annual potential oil demand will require 16 million planted acres of high oleic soybeans by 2027.
