Wayne Farms, Oakwood, GA, paid $548,500 for about 125 acres in Surry County, NC, reports The Mount Airy News.

The lot is adjacent to one owned by Duke Energy and one already owned by Wayne Farms as a hatchery and feed mill. A railroad line and the Yadkin River run through the property.

Wayne Farms spokesman Frank Singleton said the company is working with a engineering designer to improve the wastewater system.

Singleton said he isn’t sure if an expansion of the hatchery is in the plans right now. What the company wants is additional space to expand its feed mill.
