USDA Soybean Planting and Exporting Tips

Trade spat with China casts shadow over industry

The Hellenic Shipping News Worldwide reported on the U.S. Department of Agriculture's soybean grower and exporter guideline. The release came after China's import specifications for soybeans became stricter in what many believe is a continuing tit-for-tat series of trade spats between them and the United States. The guidelines are an attempt to reduce the number of weed seeds that end up in soybean exports and include suggestions on how to plant fields and clean grain before shipping. This move by China to more heavily scrutinize soybean shipments will delay cargos, increasing the transportation cost for U.S. farmers and agriculture companies, who shipped $12.4 billion worth of soybeans to China last year.
