Biofuel producers in South Dakota say they are hopeful that a new proposal from President Donald Trump could make it easier to make one of the state's most profitable products, reports Argus Leader.

Poet CEO Jeff Broin spoke Monday about the hurdles the company has faced because of the waivers.

"We've slowed production at some of our facilities and we closed one facility in Indiana, so we are decreasing our ethanol production," Broin told the Leader.

Broin said he has spoken to South Dakota farmers about Trump's plan, and says that although they are "frustrated" by trade wars and other obstacles, they are optimistic about the proposal.
