A cold, wet spring has kept soil temperatures well below normal across much of the corn belt and has resulted in delayed planting. However, a warmer and drier pattern is now setting up across the belt and will allow fieldwork to increase considerably.
“The central and southern Midwest and Delta should finally see an extended stretch of drier weather, lasting through the middle of next week,” says Don Keeney, senior agricultural meteorologist for Radiant Solutions. “Temperatures will also be warming considerably across the region by early next week, allowing producers to finally get into the fields and get their crops in the ground.”
A frontal passage later next week will likely cause some brief interruptions; however, a dry pattern is expected for much of the following week and will allow planting to resume rather quickly.
