North Dakota Department of Ag Takes over Grain Inspections

Ag commissioner says changes are coming to grain elevators

The North Dakota Department of Agriculture is taking over grain inspections in the state, and they're looking to make the process simpler, reports KFYR TV.

Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring is meeting with grain elevators, farmers and others who deal with grains in the state to talk about the changes.

Goehring says there are some laws that are outdated, such as bonding based on the volume a facility holds instead of the value of the crop. He said they're also looking at converting scale tickets.

Goehring will be holding town hall meetings in Devils Lake, Fargo, Dickinson and Stanley throughout the week.
