Flint Hills Grain has overcome a regulatory hurdle according to Mike Heronemus at Abilene-RC.com, when the city planners for Abilene, KS, voted to recommend approval to the city commission. Flint Hills Grain will have to install aeration fan silencers and get approval from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers before expanding their storage expansion can take place.

The main point of contention came from a resident concerned about dust pollution, but representatives for the grain elevator were able to satisfactorily explain their use of enclosed conveying and mineral oil in keeping grain dust down. The elevator will also be paving areas that trucks come in contact on the site.
