New Diamond V Video on Research, Poultry, Food Safety

Celebrates the company's history in the animal and feed industries

"Our research program is really focusing now on immunity and health,” Dr. Don McIntyre said at the 2018 International Production & Processing Expo in Atlanta, Ga. “Healthier animals are more productive and more efficient, and we’re trying to understand more about the mechanism for improved immunity.”

Diamond V's Kevin Corizzo interviewed McIntyre, Director of Global Research & Technical Support at Diamond V, as part of the company's monthly video series "Diamond V at 75: Immune Strength for Life" – which celebrates the company's history in the animal and feed industries and highlights its industry vision and expertise.

Also featured in the February video, released this week, are Dr. Hilary Pavlidis (Director, Poultry Research & Technical Services), Lionel Le Ven (Monogastric Technical Sales Manager -- Europe), and Kevin Sheehan (Director, Food Safety Business Development).

In poultry research, Pavlidis said, 2017 was a very successful year with five peer-reviewed publications – plus two more in the review process – resulting from studies conducted at major U.S. universities.

“We also continued our large scale global field trial program," she said, "looking at pathogen risk control in commercial broilers, turkeys, and layers, because we know poultry companies need natural non-antibiotic solutions for pre-harvest food safety.”

Le Ven said challenges facing the industry in Europe include the cost of production, animal welfare, and food safety – specifically, the fight against Campylobacter, a major foodborne pathogen risk in poultry.

Sheehan added that consumers today want to know more about what they buy than ever before: “They’re asking, ‘Did the farmer that raised my product do the absolute best … and did the packer that handled my product do the best?’”

The "Diamond V at 75" video series will continue throughout 2018 with on-site interviews with Diamond V experts at major industry events.
