Flooding has also delayed fertilizer shipments

The Effingham Daily News ran a report by Margery A. Beck of the Associated Press on the current state of the Mississipi river and the effects it is having on farm shipments.

The report states that with flooding on the Mississippi River and many of it tributaries, shipments of agriculture goods, like last years fall crop, have been delayed. Many locks along the river are closed and in some areas, the river is so high, barges do not have the clearance to make it under bridges.

The flooding has also delayed fertilizer shipments, further delaying an already late planting season.
