Lightning Blamed for Fire at Nebraska Co-op

Fire burned down scale house and unused grain cleaning facility

Lightning is being blamed for a fire at the Frenchman's Valley Farmer's Co-op in Dix, NE, that burned down a scale house and old, unused grain cleaning facility.

FVC CEO John Bender tells NBC Nebraska that the company is still assessing the loss after reports of the fire came in between 11 and 11:30 p.m. Bender says in addition to the building, there was some loss of equipment, and he would anticipate the damage to be around $100,000. No injuries were reported.

Bender says following the fire, the company's goal will be installation of at least a temporary scale house structure for use before the start of wheat harvest.
