Landmark Services Cooperative is proud to donate $4,000 to the Norski Nibbles summer lunch program. This donation will allow the program to purchase fresh, healthy produce from the local farmers market and incorporate it into the children’s daily lunches distributed at multiple locations.

The idea behind DeForest’s volunteer-led Norski Nibbles program began in 2013 as a collaborative effort between local businesses and churches to combat hunger over the summer months when school is not in session. The program began as a way to feed children 18 and younger who participate in the free and reduced lunch program during the school year.

“I am so excited. I know so many of these less fortunate kids and families don’t have the money to buy fresh produce. This donation will allow us to take this program to the next step and make sure the meals they are getting include fresh fruits and vegetables. Having fresh produce will make this our best year,” said Sandy Langdon, Norski Nibbles coordinator.

“This additional support from Landmark, this additional investment in our community, means we get to expand our reach throughout the DeForest area,” commented Jenna Homburg, manager of the DeForest Area Farmers’ Market. “Not only does this generous gift increase access to nutritious, local foods for those who need it, but it also increases awareness about the sustainable community concept and model. This program bridges the gap for children who need and deserve access to healthy, locally sourced foods during the summer months.”

As an agricultural cooperative, finding a way to help children in the local communities combat hunger is a natural fit. Landmark Services Cooperative is proud to partner with The Drive to Feed Kids initiative as part of the Landmark Gives Back program.

“We realize there are so many people in the communities we serve that aren’t getting the meals they need. To find people like those involved in the Norski Nibbles program who are willing to help us make sure that food gets to those kids is absolutely critical,” said Bob Carlson, CEO of Landmark Services Cooperative.

The Drive to Feed Kids is a collaboration between Nutra Blend and their partners in the feed industry to increase awareness about child hunger and raise money to feed children in the U.S. As part of Landmark’s commitment to be engaged in the communities where they live and work, Landmark is working with area summer lunch programs.
