The Trump Administration has vowed to reduce the burden and cost of various regulations affecting U.S. industries. While generally considered friendly to agricultural interests, how might the administration impact feed and grain businesses?
“There is an ongoing ‘buzz’ in the industry on how feed manufacturers and grain handlers might see some regulatory relief,” noted Elise Schafer, editor of Feed & Grain. “At this point, while we’ve heard nothing definitive, some ideas are filtering into some key associations. At the upcoming Feed & Grain LIVE conference and trade show, we’ll have two industry veterans — two people who have spent plenty of time inside the beltway — who will provide their insight to our attendees.”
Jess McCluer, vice president, safety and regulatory affairs, National Grain and Feed Association, will focus on how the administration’s new Department of Labor Secretary might look at OSHA enforcement policies.
“Rumors are swirling about how various rules might change and Jess is in a key position to provide current, timely information,” Schafer said.
Having spent a few decades advocating for the feed industry and educating feed businesses about industry regulations, Richard Sellers, senior vice president of policy and education for the American Feed Industry Association, will shed light on President Trump’s regulatory philosophy.
“Repealing rules is off the table, but Richard is looking at rules such as the Veterinary Feed Directive and the Food Safety Modernization Act. We may see some changes,” Schafer said.
