GrainsConnect Canada announces its second high-speed train loading terminal in Saskatchewan is fully operational.

As of June 1, 2018, GrainsConnect Canada is able to receive grain from producers to their terminal in Reford, SK. The $30m project is built just west of Saskatoon, and complements the first high-capacity terminal built by GrainsConnect in Maymont, Saskatchewan.

The site features a state-of-the-art 35,000-tonne grain terminal with the ability to load 134 rail cars in under 14 hours. The Reford terminal is a replica of the successfully developed Maymont terminal, built to increase efficiency and reliability to growers in the area.

Terminals in Reford and Maymont are the first of four confirmed terminals to be constructed by GrainsConnect Canada. The first two terminal locations were strategically chosen to service growers who currently travel further to deliver their grain, and the following two terminals will be constructed in Huxley, Alberta and Vegreville, Alberta to further deliver value to growers.

Each terminal will be constructed to stringent standards that benefit the producer and the customer.

“We’ve expertly crafted our terminal in Reford,” says Warren Stow, president of GrainsConnect Canada. “By following the same precise standards used to build in Maymont, we’re able to leverage that knowledge to build in Reford, Huxley and Vegreville with an efficient budget and impressive timeline that delivers further value to our customers.”

GrainsConnect Canada is headquartered in Calgary, Alberta and is a joint-venture of GrainCorp and Zen-Noh Group. GrainCorp, with corporate headquarters in Sydney, Australia, has been successfully providing customers with access to Canadian, American and global marketplaces for over 100 years. Zen-Noh Group, a major Japanese agricultural cooperative, was established in 1972 and has grown into one of the largest cooperatives in the world, valued at over 115 billion yen.

Development of the Reford terminal created significant local employment during the construction process, plus full-time employment to operate the terminal year-round. GrainsConnect employs an expert team of merchants, armed with local knowledge and global insights, to provide easily understood terms and competitive prices to growers across Western Canada.

“We’re proud to contribute to the economic growth in these communities,” explains Stow. “By hiring local merchants and supporting community initiatives where we build, we don’t just do business in these communities but truly become part of their family businesses.”
