Grain Elevator Fire in Missouri

Multiple departments called to Madison County Farm Supply, Fredericktown, MO

Madison County Farm Supply, Fredericktown, MO, suffered major damage Tuesday as a fire broke out in its grain elevator, reports the Daily Journal.

According to Fredericktown Fire Chief John Clark, the cause of the fire is undetermined and the state fire marshal's office is currently investigating.

Clark said the structure was believed to be constructed in 1952 from oak lumber which was then topped with two layers of sheet iron making it difficult to gain access to the burning grain.

Crews battled the fire for 5 1/2 hours with one firefighter suffering from heat exhaustion.
