Grain Dryer Fire in Illinois

Loss of grain is estimated at $25,000

No injuries were reported after Dwight Fire Protection District responded to a fire Wednesday afternoon at a Consolidated Grain and Barge (CBG) facility about three miles east of Dwight, IL, on Route 17, although multiple crews from surrounding communities were called in to assist, according to a report at the Morris Herald-News.

"On arrival, crews found a 120-foot tall grain dryer with heavy smoke coming from the top and sides of the unit," according to a press release on the Dwight fire district's Facebook page. "Crews utilized two aerial tower ladders and several engine companies to extinguish the fire which was located 110 feet in the air near the top of the dryer."

Crews also found fire about 40 feet up, the release read.

The call came in at 4:34 p.m. and was under control by about 5:30 p.m.

No members of the fire crews or employees were injured during the incident. The fire was contained inside the dryer. The damage to the structure and the loss of grain is estimated at $25,000, according to the release.

Other departments assisting included Gardner, Odell, Pontiac, Braidwood, Campus-Emington, Cullom, Saunemin, Limestone, Herscher, Coal City, Morris and Mazon, as well as Dwight and Duffy Ambulances.
