Registration is now open for the 2018 GEAPS Leadership, Education and Networking Workshop. The two-day event will focus on human resources topics, and is an opportunity for all level of grain industry professionals to build valuable leadership skills while expanding their professional networks. All registration will take place online.
The Workshop will take place at the Saint Paul Hotel on Tuesday, July 17 and Wednesday, July 18. It features four expert speakers addressing: change management, hiring and motivating talent, and succession planning. The event is free for GEAPS members and $249 for non-members. Last year 100 grain professionals attended.
GEAPS International President Barb Kraft, Landus Cooperative, will attend the event and give the welcome address.
“Events like this workshop are a great opportunity for future leaders,” Kraft said. “Attendees gain exposure to some of the important human resources issues facing the industry, and meet other current and future grain industry leaders. We encourage companies to send multiple employees to grow in this forum.”
Keynote Address: Creating a Mindset for Change and Innovation

Leading Change: Learn How to Skillfully Lead Change to Inspire a Strong Team

Change happens all the time. If not handled well, change can be disruptive. In this session, you will identify the various types of change and management tactics. Learn how to identify and prepare for scenarios and consequences caused by change. Schalkle will recommend support during change, describe support structures, and help attendees identify how to create safe information sources to avoid rumor mills.
Succession Planning

A grain company can only create and deploy a succession plan if it has valuable employees that endure. Those employees ultimately turn into the company’s succession plan. In this session, attendees will define a succession plan start to finish, including planning time frames and strategies for implementation.
Closing Discussion Panel
New this year is a distinctive closing session. Workshop speakers, along with industry experts, will participate in a discussion panel. Attendees will ask questions and use cell phone polling technology. The panel will allow participants to process conference information in a broader sense and apply it directly to their company.
Networking
The workshop also features a networking reception on Tuesday evening, and networking breaks throughout the day on Wednesday. For many attendees, the networking is one of the most valuable aspects of the event.
