GEAPS, K-State Announce January 2018 Courses

Offering training on basic operations and management, safety cultures and materials handling

Registration is now open for four grain handling operations courses from the Grain Elevator and Processing Society (GEAPS) and Kansas State University in January. These online courses run from Jan. 8 through Feb. 9, 2018, and registration closes Jan. 3, 2017. More than 5,000 registrants from 30 countries have taken courses since the program’s start in 2005.

GEAPS 500: Introduction to Grain Handling Operations

This course offers an introduction to the key purposes, equipment and processes of grain handling facilities with an emphasis on safety. This course allows new employees to gain valuable insight into the industry. It also helps seasoned employees enhance their skills.

GEAPS 501: Management Basics for Grain Facility Supervisors
This course will provide an extensive overview of the main duties, responsibilities and expectations of grain operations supervisors and managers. It will cover essential duties, topics and roles supervisors and managers need to understand, and why they are important.

GEAPS 541: Developing an Effective Safety Culture

Learn the concept of safety cultures, how to evaluate a company and how safety affects a company’s bottom line. Lectures teach participants to assess the return on investment for safety cultures, determine the components of strong safety cultures and provide tools for reshaping attitudes and promoting employee buy-in.

GEAPS 550: Materials Handling I

This course is the first in a three-part series and focuses on the properties and flow characteristics of grains and other dry bulk materials. Participants will be able to determine various material characteristics and their effect on the selection and sizing of bins, spouting and screw conveyors.

Courses cost $700 for GEAPS members and $965 for non-members. Companies can save up to 20 percent on blocks of registrations with the volume discount program, and lock in the price for three years.
