Gas Leak at Illinois Grain Elevator Evacuates Town

Boone County Sheriff David Ernest says authorities evacuated the village of Caledonia, IL, Tuesday due to a gas leak at a grain elevator, reports WIFR.

Authorities arrives on scene at 1 p.m. Tuesday. Investigators say a leak in a gas pipeline at the grain elevator was a result of construction.

Authorities went door-to-door Tuesday to evacuate the village, which has a population of around 200 people.

UPDATE from WIFR: The Boone County Sheriff's office says residents were able to return to their homes in Caledonia.

They say the grain elevator gas pipe that leaked and caused the evacuation has been turned off.
