FMC Expands Fact-Finding Investigation

Looking into whether carriers in alliances that call on several ports are violating Federal regulations

Container operation port series 1150 8333

On November 19, the Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) expanded its investigation into whether carriers in alliances that call on the ports of Long Beach, Los Angeles, New York, and/or New Jersey are violating Federal regulations.

Practices under investigation for possible violations concern demurrage and detention, container return, and container availability for U.S. export cargoes, and other issues.

FMC’s November 19 Supplemental Order expands the authority of its Fact Finding 29 order issued earlier this year.
