Myhighplains.com reporter Blessing Woksman reported on a fire at the top of Hereford Grain Elevator in Hereford, TX, that shut down the local Highway 60 and a BNSF railroad line along with forcing a voluntary evacuation on Monday. Both the highway and rail road were reopened this morning according to newschannel10.com and the evacuation order has be lifted, though people are still encouraged to stay away as the fire smolders.

The fire started in the inaccessible “doghouse” on top of the grain elevator, but as of now the cause is still unknown. There were no injuries and the fire department decided the best course of action was to let the fire simply burn out. The fire took over 24 hours to be brought under control.
